And I got annoyed at its small, weird collection of Japanese craft and sewing books &#8230; that&#8217;s before I realised BOOKOFF is a secondhand bookshop, with gems like this:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-356\" title=\"Go-Akiue: kimono remake\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ginevra.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/rimg1115-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Go-Akiue: kimono remake\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ginevra.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/rimg1115-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.ginevra.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/rimg1115-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>ISBN4-529-03959-5<\/p>\n<p>And odd ones like this:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-357\" title=\"The Works of Sayoko Mori\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ginevra.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/rimg1116-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"The Works of Sayoko Mori\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ginevra.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/rimg1116-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ginevra.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/rimg1116-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>ISBN 4-946496-47-5<\/p>\n<p>It must be the special <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brandchannel.com\/features_profile.asp?pr_id=136\" target=\"_self\">edge-sanding<\/a> technique, because when I first came here, I thought the books were new.\u00c2\u00a0 And it&#8217;s true what the article says, the stores aren&#8217;t dingy and unwelcoming at all &#8230; so totally unlike secondhand bookshops I&#8217;m used too.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and BOOKOFFs carry plenty of fashion magazines, often very current ones &#8230; my local has a couple of February 2009 issues already!\u00c2\u00a0 And sewing books, knitting books, craft books &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.brandchannel.com\/features_profile.asp?pr_id=136\" target=\"_self\">Apparently<\/a>, there&#8217;s a legal reason why you never see books on sale here, so if you&#8217;re after half-price Japanese craft books &#8230; you know where to shop.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve seen BOOKOFFs everywhere in Tokyo, at one stage I tried to find the biggest (Akihabara?) and best for fashion \/ design \/craft (Shibuya or Jiyugaoka?) but actual my local&#8217;s been good to me, perhaps because I visit frequently.<\/p>\n<p>P.S. If you&#8217;re after English language books while you&#8217;re in Tokyo, I recommend <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maruzen.co.jp\/corp\/en\/\" target=\"_self\">Maruzen<\/a> at Nihombashi or Marunouchi, or the bookshop in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parco.co.jp\/customer\/shibuya\/\" target=\"_self\">basement of Parco<\/a>, Shibuya.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Because I just didn&#8217;t understand BOOKOFF when I first came to Tokyo.
