  • Illustration Friday: Speed

    Date: 2006.04.11 | Category: drawing | Response: 4

The speed of ships being loaded and unloaded at the docks. Not sure about this one, took a lot of false starts on other speed-related themes to get here.

  • Mr Fellowes

This is Mr. Fellowes. (I don’t believe anyone calls him Odd Fellowes to his face). He’s travelling in the train, like he does every morning, reading his newspaper … he only agreed to put his hat on because of the photo ;D

What is he? A piece of pure whimsy. And using what I have. Why isn’t he one of your 33 projects? Well … actually … he’s a sewing experiment, and I didn’t want to experiment on anything “serious”. I learnt a bit about stuffing, and that I’d like to sew more with knit fabrics.

And yes, the experiment was successful, thank you for asking. I’ve recently had this radical idea that pinning the pattern to the fabric would be better than trying to follow wobbly fabric marker lines. And yes, it was. Shhhh, stop sniggering at beginner sewers!! ;D

Yesterday, I received a really lovely package from Soozs as part of the Use What You Have April materials swap …

I love the faded blues of the Thai fabrics, love the care Sooz took in putting the parcel together with ribbons and card, but most of all, I love Soozs’ generosity in giving me the pattern to one of her softies, a really, really sweet rabbit called Doo Ka Ta. Again, thank you so much Soozs!!!!!

I hope my partner enjoys their bright colours (yes, I like ‘em!) and origami challenge ;D. Can’t reveal where it’s going yet, but they’re really, really lucky they didn’t get a heap of wool…

  • Illustration Friday: Spring

    Date: 2006.04.04 | Category: drawing | Response: 2

Just in case it’s hard to read, the words say “AUTUMN. IT’S AUTUMN. IT’S AUTUMN IN THE SOUTH. SOUTHERN…(loops)”. So, it’s pretty obvious how I feel about this topic. It’s Autumn (USA=Fall) here, getting colder and darker. Although you can also see my current intrerest in repeated rows, hand written. Sorta like knitting, a round pattern squared – there’s an idea brewing there somewhere, but it’s not quite formed yet …

The photo above was taken as A moved the drawing – I like it!
